The kinetics characteristic of first-order reactions. In these reactions the rate is proportional to the concentration of reactant, and the logarithm of this concentration falls linearly with time.

En langage mathématique, la vitesse s'écrit dB/dt. Nous avons donc : -dB/dt= k.B, ce qui signifie que la diminution de la quantité de médicament dans le sang (- dB) en fonction du temps (dt) est proportionnelle à la constante de vitesse (k) et à la quantité de médicament présente dans le sang (B) à l'instant envisagé. Il s'agit ici d'une cinétique dite du premier ordre.
